John Akomfrah´s documentary is an homage to the African-American human rights activist Malcolm X as well as a testimony of political life, spiritual transformations, loves, losses, untimely death and legacy of this charismatic man.

 

A visually compelling essay in the South African setting raises one fundamental question besides many others: will the generation of children frolicking on the promenade on the oceanfront reflect themselves and their surroundings without racial prejudice once they grow up?

 

 

Barack Hussein Obama gave his A More Perfect Union speech on the race question a year ago to the day – on 18 March 2008 – in Philadelphia. The candidate was interrupted with applause seventeen times during his fewer than forty minutes talk. The following day the media compared the speech to Martin Luther King´s I have a dream.
