Masterclass: David Borenstein

The One World Festival annually draws attention to important topics that shape society. In addition to the four traditional competition sections, the twenty-seventh edition of the festival will feature seven non-competitive categories, which group films thematically into the sections Slovak Journey, Family Networks, Women's Perspective, Men's Existence, Ecosystems, The Search for Freedom, and Community Boundaries.

The festival programme will include two films by director David Borenstein – Can't Feel Nothing, which explores the issue of emotional numbness on the Internet, and Mr. Nobody Against Putin, which recently premiered and received awards at Sundance.

David Borenstein, an American director based in Copenhagen, will hold a masterclass on Friday, 14 March 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reference Screening Room Studio FAMU. His feature-length documentary Dream Empire (2016) premiered at IDFA and won the main competition at the Thessaloniki Documentary FF. Over the course of his directing career, he has collaborated with Al Jazeera English, WDR ARTE, DR2, The New York Times, and other broadcasters. David holds a PhD in anthropology and is fluent in Chinese. His documentary Can't Feel Nothing (2024) had its world premiere at the prestigious documentary film festival CPH:DOX in the F:act Award section, dedicated to investigative journalism.

The masterclass will be held in English.

Admission is free.
