Women in a remote south Egyptian village should help men, keep quiet, and bear children. To protest against these stereotypes, some girls start a theatre group.
Here they can express themselves freely and also support each other. They stage their performances, full of their own dreams and experiences, in public spaces otherwise occupied only by stray dogs and men on motorbikes.
Over the course of 4 years, as the girls become women, the group slowly falls apart under pressure from their partners and families. Fortunately, the stage doesn’t remain empty for long. Hope comes with the next generation of young girls who change from spectators to the main actors in their own lives.
