Texada

(Texada)

Stones, memories, melancholy – the key themes of this VR project in which a powerful authentic narrative about a vanishing industry brings even minerals to life.

The project presents the current situation of Texada, the largest of Canada’s Gulf Islands. Texada’s position as an important industrial centre, chiefly due to limestone mining, is now history. The spectral, desolate scenes captured by the two Canadian filmmakers provide an insight into a post-mining environment. They are complemented by residents’ testimonies as well as immersive animated sequences that allow viewers to experience the passage of geological time. Here, stones act as archivists of human information, and come to life when given space for their own narratives.
