After fleeing from the Taliban to Vienna, 4 friends are waiting for a decision on asylum. For several years, they capture fragments of their lives in a foreign land on camera, insightfully revealing the personal stories of the involuntary nomads of today.

Samim, Najid, Fawad, and Marwand are united by language, culture, and their common flight to Europe. While some are granted asylum in Austria, others become illegal refugees. But in all cases, integration into society is crucial for their future.

This gripping story of friendship, fear, uncertainty, and hope is a mosaic composed of stays in refugee facilities, dangerous border crossings, and ordinary everyday moments. The video diary confirms that immigrants overlooked by mainstream society share the same desire to find stability in their lives and a safe home in a world that often sees them only as an administrative burden.

Sabbath Queen

With Orthodox Jewish roots, Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie continues his family legacy as a rabbi, but his queer identity also matters to him. After coming out in the 1990s, he left Israel, moved to New York, and focused on reforming Judaism. He has organised art happenings to support women and the LGBT+ community and has found fame as a drag queen.
