My Everything
(Mon Inséparable)
After Mona gives birth to a disabled child, her marriage ends and relations with her mother stall. For 30 years, she devotes all her time to her son, never imagining that things will ever change. So when Joel falls in love and moves towards independence, Mona can’t accept it. Not only because she has no one but her son, but also because she is unable to imagine how a couple with disabilities will cope with the challenges of adult life.
French director and screenwriter Anne-Sophie Bailly’s debut is an intimate study of the parent-child relationship. Thanks to perceptive professional acting and sensitive social actors, it shows with exceptional emphasis the central dilemmas of motherhood and opens the multi-layered topic of caring for people with disabilities, related to their autonomy and intimate life.
