The Family Approach
(Im Prinzip Familie)
Three youth workers, Antje, Max and Sören, live in a remote lakeside house and look after several boys of various ages whose parents can’t care for them or don’t want to. They form a family community with its own rules and agreements.
For over a year, the film crew tracks them in their daily activities. From going to school and doing homework, to communicating with authorities and parents who occasionally visit. Joy and laughter while playing games and celebrating Christmas alternate with heavier emotions in situations when decisions are made about the children’s future.
The film highlights the great responsibility and small, often unappreciated steps that intensive residential care requires. The intimate observational film is a tribute to the willingness and dedication of people who dedicate their lives to preparing others for life.
