Documentarist Veronika Lišková’s fiction film debut tracks a new widow in scrupulous detail. The screenplay is based on the diary entries Zuzana Pokorná wrote for Respekt magazine shortly after her partner’s death in 2014.
We are linked to Petra’s experience by close-up shots as well as the subjective use of sounds, which the protagonist often can’t perceive under the rush of emotions. More than tears, the film is concerned with the seemingly banal daily activities so vital for Petra to help fill the void, to think of things apart from her husband’s absence.
