About the film

Six Iranian women talk about life in a country where they are expected to keep quiet and listen. Through open testimonies with an emancipatory charge, they aim to raise awareness of the various forms of discrimination against women.

The repressive Iranian regime has a long history of human rights violations. Censorship and persecution, in extreme cases ending in death, have been particularly hard on local women. Six of them dared to speak out in this documentary directed by Mostafa Heravi. A visual artist, a teacher, a journalist, a cricketer, a musician, and a well-known film actress recapitulate their arduous yet hopeful life stories. Some have remained in the country, while others have fled into exile. None of them are willing to accept rules that tell women how they should behave, dress, or speak. They pass an ornamental mask among themselves, which is a reminder of home, a memento of oppression, and an object whose rejection expresses a shared desire for freedom.
