About the film
The film narrates the story of the French painter Apolonia Sokol, who was followed for thirteen years by the Danish documentary filmmaker Lea Glob. Can the artist make it in the contemporary art world, which is often tied to hard business?
Apolonia grew up in a dilapidated Paris theatre in a family of artists and bohemians. Now she’s studying at a prestigious art school. The young woman experiences first-hand the dilemma of an artist who wants to create, but also must support herself. She is forced to make compromises about her work and her decision to leave her roots. The documentary also follows the stories of those who have entered Apolonia’s life in a significant way – such as her close friend Oxana Shachko, a talented artist and one of the founding members of the Ukrainian radical feminist group Femen. Their fates are no less interesting, and, above all, they influence the painter on her journey to fulfil her dream of achieving immortality through her art.
