For centuries, Greenland was a Danish colony without true autonomy. How do the indigenous peoples handle the sad legacy of colonialism that continues to pervade all aspects of their lives?

Like many other Inuit, lawyer and activist Aaju Peter was sent to Denmark for reschooling as a child. Forced cultural assimilation had horrific consequences for the Inuit in the form of broken family ties and disrupted traditions, language and culture. Greenland hasn’t recovered from its colonial past, and the uprooted Inuit figure the most highly in the ranks of the unemployed as well as rates of suicide. After her son’s unexpected death, Aaju sets out on a personal mission with the aim of confronting the past and colonial trauma. The film tracks her tireless battle for Inuit rights and a better future for the upcoming generations.
