From morning to night Souleymane zigzags on his bike through Paris’s crowded streets. He is one of many underpaid couriers whose colourful uniforms are a fixture in big cities. But Souleymane doesn’t risk his health just to make a living.
As an illegal migrant from Guinea, he needs money to get the documents required to apply for asylum and has less than 2 days to do so. His tense race with time and heavy city traffic is complicated by the fact that he works under someone else’s name and sleeps in a hostel that is serviced by only one bus. Moreover, he can’t remember all the details of the fictitious story he has to tell the authorities to increase his chances of being accepted.
The film shows the harsh and complicated reality behind the stereotypical stories that Western society wants to hear about African immigrants. The gripping social drama won 3 awards at Cannes.
