At age 38, documentarist Victoria Mapplebeck found herself in a difficult situation. Unable to combine solo motherhood with freelance directing, she didn’t have the means to provide for her family. So she turned the camera on herself and her son Jim. She recorded their life together for 20 years – from Jim’s first steps to when he started university. Even more challenging than Jim’s puberty, was the author's insidious illness.

A longitudinal diary study created from hundreds of hours of footage offers a non-idealised look at single parenthood. In the same chaotic way as human memory, the film mixes images from the past and present, captured using various recording media. In this way, we spontaneously follow Victoria’s development as a woman, mother and filmmaker.
