Full-length documentary
Balomania
The launching of colourful hot-air balloons has a rich tradition in Brazil, and its popularity didn’t diminish even when made illegal.
Kai, an inquisitive curious aspiring Spanish musician, is still unsure of his place in the world. Drawn to philosophy and the emerging subculture of transhumanism, he toys with the idea of using technology to modify his own perception along with his very nature.
Kai infiltrates a community of people who, by virtue of their technologically augmented bodies, are the first in the world to gain official “cyborg” status. With their backing, Kai embarks on his own journey, during which he uses special sensors “to hear the universe”.
The film may be seen as an opportunity to learn about transhumanism, as well as a universal journey of one’s quest for self-realisation and understanding one’s own identity. The atmospheric film grasps the topic without adulation or prejudice.
