In the second half of the 1960s, Dubček personified “socialism with a human face” and became an idol of sorts. Director Robert Kirchhoff launches into an insightful demystification, travelling in Europe and elsewhere, visiting places associated with to Dubček’s life, and meeting with people who were close to him. A chain of archive footage and situational stopovers present the popular politician during various periods of his life and in different roles – from his childhood in Kyrgyzstan, covering the months of his greatest fame during the Prague Spring, and ending with his rebirth in the memories and interpretations of his admirers, as well as those whom he disappointed.
