Grey Zone

(Šedá zóna)

The medical term “grey zone” applies to babies born between the 22nd and 24th week of pregnancy. The likelihood of their survival is extremely low.

In Daniela Meressa Rusnok’s intimate personal testimony, this phrase also refers to life on the borderline, in permanent uncertainty, as experienced by mothers of premature babies, to whom both society and the health and social systems turn a blind eye.

The director draws on her personal experience and that of other parents to highlight how the lack of support affects their psychological, physical and financial situation. The film is poetic and at the same time open about the painful, taboo issue of neonatology, as well as about deep parental love and understanding.
