Democracy Noir

(Democracy Noir)

Orbán’s politics are a big topic in the European Parliament, yet Hungarians feel the need to move from words to action. Articles, TV reports, opposition in the National Assembly, roadblocks, all are tools the three protagonists use to highlight Hungary’s current problems. In doing so, they become a thorn in the ruling regime’s side.

They publicly criticise healthcare cuts, the destruction of national parks, and the ubiquitous political corruption. They portray Orbán as a man who is deliberately undermining democracy and prefers to invest in friends rather than in education. Even though Hungary seems to be engulfed in political darkness, the film shows light shining through the dark and that despite the persecution those battling the authoritarian regime aren’t about to give up.
