Namaste Himalaya - How a Village in Nepal Opened the World to Us

(Namaste Himalaya - Wie ein Dorf in Nepal uns die Welt öffnete)

For Michael and Anna, travel is the greatest gift. Driven by curiosity, together they discover colourful locations around the world. But when they reach the Himalayas in Nepal, the borders close as the world is paralysed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Instead of movement, forced isolation. The hubbub of street markets and random encounters with locals suddenly ceases, and everyone retreats inside. For the freedom-loving couple, lockdown is a challenge. The closed borders force them to remain in a village. At first, the passing days seem endless, but the two tourists slowly become a part of the local community, where there is space for sharing and mutual help. The pandemic proves to be an opportunity to pause, to see the depth and variety of the everyday without the constant need to change and shift it. Maybe the path to discovery isn’t always about moving forward. It might appear where least expected: in the here and now.
