In Japan, up to 90% of rape victims don’t seek police help. Journalist Shiori Itō breaks the silence. After being raped during a job interview by a man closely tied to the prime minister, she launches a fight for justice that leads her into the dark corners of the Japanese legal and social systems.

The investigation is full of intimidation, manipulation and obstacles – from police inaction to disturbing attempts to sweep the case under the carpet. Against all odds, Shiori documents in detail not only her own struggle with trauma, but also the ossified system that protects the powerful rather than the victims. The film is a stirring testimony of courage in the face of injustice and encourages the necessary changes that might provide redress for victims of violence.

The Last Expedition
