On Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m., we are opening One World for the public with a screening of the German film White Angel.
For several months, Vasyl's camera on his helmet captures footage that is evidence of war crimes.
The town of Marynka in the Donetsk region used to have 10,000 inhabitants. When Russia invaded Ukraine, almost everyone had to flee. Police officer Vasyl Pipa and a volunteer team are trying to get people to safety who have been hiding in dark, damp basements for weeks, bagging the dead, providing first aid to the injured, treating lacerations from shrapnel. They move in an ordinary van, which the locals soon start calling the White Angel. On a small camera attached to his helmet, Vasyl captures the dramatic events in eastern Ukraine as they happen. In this way, he managed to film an authentic testimony of how Russia is erasing Marynka from the face of the earth. The documentary, combining raw footage shot by Ukrainian policeman Vasyl and professionally recorded interviews with the "protagonists" of Vasyl's footage, authentically (yet not drastically!) conveys the lived experience of a war that is so close. After the film, there will be a moderated discussion, more about the invited expert soon.
