What do sports and sexual violence have in common?

The answer is: Unfortunately, yes.

Dedicating yourself to top sports means traveling without your parents from an early age, only with your coach and team. This fragile situation was exploited by the coach of Amalíji, a Greek athlete who, after the open confession of the Olympic champion Sofia Bekatorou, dares to speak. A person she trusted raped her for the first time when she was eleven years old. The documentary Against the Wind follows a court trial in which Amalíja is constantly humiliated and her accusations are trivialized in an attempt to discredit her testimony and successful sports career. Although the court ultimately rules in Amalia's favor, both she and Sofia realize that the fight to modernize Greece's legal system, which lacks a comprehensive framework for monitoring the abuse of minors, is only just beginning. The film, the topic of which is very relevant for the Czech environment, both sports and society in general, will be screened on Saturday, April 13 from 4:00 p.m. After the screening, we are preparing an expert panel including space for discussion with the audience.
