The best documentary films now online

Among the selected festival documentaries you can watch at home is Apolonia, Apolonia, which won the International Competition Jury Award for Best Film. The film intimately portrays the life story of French painter Apolonia. Documentary filmmaker Lea Glob has been following her efforts to make it in the contemporary art world for 13 long years.   

The Regional Jury award went to The Farmer and the Hipster. Director Kurt Langbein shows the contrasting lifestyles of a Viennese journalist and an Alpine farmer and the emergence of their unexpected friendship. You can also watch this documentary at One World Onlline until 16 April.   

The Student Jury Award at the 25th edition of the festival went to Susanne Regina Meures' The Girl Gang. The documentary introduces viewers to influencer Leonie, whose Instagram numbers continue to rise, but whose apparent dream is quickly turning into a business that employs her entire family.   

One World Online features films from all film categories of the 25th edition of the festival - International Competition, Right to Know, Czech Competition, Ukraine, New Gods, Relationships, Female Power, Sustainability, Uprooted and Social Media.

About One World Online  

In 2021, One World could not be held in cinemas due to the covid-19 pandemic. The festival launched the One World Online platform, enabling films to reach audiences even through the cinemas remained closed. After the festival, we decided to keep the platform running so that people could watch human rights documentaries throughout the year. For two years now, viewers have had the opportunity to watch films about human rights from their living room, anywhere in the Czech Republic.

All films have Czech and English subtitles, some of them with descriptive subtitles or audio description.
